June 19, 2010 Seed Bird Feeder

I placed a Bluetooth wireless mike in the lilac bush and from 2 — 3 feet away I got this video of these incredible little hummingbirds.

hi! i have some questions for you birders out there and i’m really hoping that you’ll help me out!
    1. what is it about birding that excites you?
    2. do you stay in the same spot for hours or move around?
    3. in your opinion, what would be the ideal observation tower for your activities?

thanks so much in advance for your help! really hoping that you ppl will help me out here. thanks again =)

Outstanding video. I am in the middle of migration here in Iowa. I expect to see them for another week before temps in the 40′s drive them farther south. With six feeders, and many many cardinal flowers blooming, it is a rest stop for the past 5 years now, and becoming more popular. But not quite as active as yours.

Yes, great video and it was a great idea to put that mic in there so now we can hear those little birds achieving supersonic speeds with their wings :)

cool vid! I’ve never seen a hummingbird like the orange one with the red throat before! We have ones that are very dark in color and ones that are like an emerald green with very shiny feathers here in Illinois. We just love to watch them. Even our dogs stay very still and quiet so they can see them up close.

Hehe, pretty cool…. great vid quality and a neat idea. Hummers are really cool to watch up close and will usually tolerate observers if you stand still long enough. This clip replicates the experience nicely, and thanks to your bluetooth trick–awesome sound. Thanks for posting!

Thanks so much for posting this. I miss my hummingbirds over the winter. Mine never want to eat together at the same feeder, though. They are always fighting. Must be married!!!
