What type of seed do white ducks like?

Posted by Filed Under Seed Bird Feeder with 3 Comments

The common white /pekin duck. There’s this trio that visit me 2-3 times a day, they live in the lake near my home & come to ask for food. They usually pick at the fallen mixed wild bird seed from the sparrow feeders. What type of bird seed is good for them? Just curious…by the way, their wild ducks.

Is this a Hawk Sparrow? What's it doing?

So I have a really nice bird feeding station, and since it’s spring, I’m starting to see a whole bunch of birds. this afternoon, I was watching the sparrows, chickadees, Juncos, and finches, when a much larger bird swooped down to the station. It didn’t try to harm any of the birds, but it scared them all away. It didn’t really eat the seed, it just kind of walked around, flying short distances, whenever it got spooked. The bird stood about a foot tall, and seemed to have a pretty large wing span. It’s back was a dull blue, and it had a fairly small head with a hawk-like beak. It had brown speckles on its chest, and didn’t seem very intimidated or intimidating. It walked around for 15 minutes or so, then flew into a nearby spruce tree where it still sits. My dad suggested that it was a Hawk Sparrow, and I kind of think so to. But if it is, why is it hanging around a bird feeder in the middle of the woods? He looks healthy, but it just seems out of character for that species to be doing that? Any thoughts? Thanks!

The Bright colors and the song or these Wild Canaries Are Like no other bird that comes to my feeders they add color and music to the yard. They are probably one of the easiest bird to attract to the yard just make sure that you offer plenty of clean fresh seed and a water source and you will have no problem keeping them around.

Birds Last Meal

I took one of my daily walks which I do about 10 times a day and seen nothing this morning. I just happen to look up at this bird feeder and seen this bird. Being it wasn’t a colorful bird I figure it to be a Wren or Sparrow which come and pull all the seeds out of the feeder looking for Sunflower seed or at least the bigger seeds, so the tray gets full of smaller seeds which fill up and fall to the ground. We didn’t put these feeders up for Wren’s Sparrows, Starlings, Blackbirds, Crows, etc. So if I catch any of these birds on the feeders, I consider it trespassing & Stealing and will suffer the same fate as this one. I’ll be waiting for the day I miss and I get to watch all the seeds pour out onto the ground! Me miss? Hahaha…. yeah, I do at times….. I don’t have a clue how far I was away from the feeder, but it was a pretty good distance. I used the Gamo Big Cat and the Crosman 7.9 hollow points for this shot.

This little Song Sparrow was underneath my thistle feeder just digging away trying to find any little seed he could to munch on. It is cute how he scratches the ground with his feet to uncover new seed to eat. A BIG Thank You! to Seahue who was able to identify this bird for me. I was a bit confused to which kind he was. The Garden Project documents my attempts to restore a lost urban eco-system. The EPA tested our soil and discovered unacceptable levels of arsenic. The soil was subsequently removed and replaced. I preserved plant samples, collected seeds and made paintings and prints. I then sowed the reclaimed space with seeds from the destroyed ecosystem. Hand made porcelain Human Head Bird Feeders and Bird Feeder Masks encourage birds to remain in the yard and the birds become a living element in the artwork. With acknowledged humor, I imprint them with intimate knowledge of the human face and call attention to human presence in the urban ecosystem.
