There are really 2 fundamental approaches to keep the squirrels from your bird feeder. The first is to simply try to prevent them from getting the power supply. There are two common types of feeders that do so.

Shocked Bird Feeder-simply restricting access to food in the sheet feeder, you frustrate and move them. The advantage of using a deflector is that it more or less separates the squirrel proof barrier from the power supply itself, so that the birds have free access to the bird seed, bird and every size can continue to use the power supply. This is often the most aesthetic approach. This is often done by mounting pile feeder and putting the baffle on the pole. Other types of use a hanging flap and forms a roof over the power supply.

The disadvantage of this approach is that squirrels can jump great distances and are incredibly agile climbers, that they are often a way to land on actual feeder and bypassing the perplexing. With the PSU mounted above you can also find a squirrel smart enough to climb down and cause the power supply of swing, and while they may not have access to the same power supply can cause the bird to put food on the ground, where you can get all the food they want.

Caged bird feeders-another very common solution is to use a power supply cage. These are easy to spot, the building includes a certain type of cage around the area of actual power. A mesh is quite open, and indeed a caged feeder pipe style seems like an electronic bug zapper with open surrounding the tube.

Caged feeders are better at keeping squirrels out of power, but they can still get to it and scare the birds who are trying to use the power supply. This is often the case when you’re trying to attract smaller birds.

The second approach to get rid of squirrels in your bird feeder is to move them. Much more effective types of squirrel proof feeders are those that cause the squirrel to fall or be thrown from the sheet feeder. There are two types of those power supplies as well, weight activated power supplies and battery powered motorized or electronic ballasts. While this won’t harm the squirrels are fun to watch in action …

I also tried giving the squirrels the statue of Lionel, and they just gave me firesticks and I still couldn’t pick up the birdseed (I went back and gave the statue to the elves since that didn’t work). Is this a glitch or is there something else I have to do to get the birdseed? I can’t get the dragon without getting the birdseed, can I? When I go into the squirrels’ cave, I can walk up to the birdseed, hit spacebar, and it just says I see birdseed, with no other options. I think I have done everything else possible in the game up to this point except planting the beanstalk seeds.

Why do the birds leave my bird feeder?

Posted by Filed Under Seed Bird Feeder with 4 Comments

I’ve had a bird feeder on my porch for the past few months and for the first week, I had tons of birds feeding there. Then they stopped coming all together. Then I went out there and shook out the old seed so some new seed was in the tray and they came back for a few days then stopped again. A few days ago I threw out the old seed and replaced it with new seed and not even 20 minutes later I had 5 or 6 birds there. Now 2 days later they’ve stopped coming again. What is going on? Do I really need to change all the seed every 2 days or is there another problem? How can I keep the birds coming back? (Also, I don’t have any problem with squirrels so it’s not like there are squirrels chasing them away)
