Woodpecker

August 8, 2010 Seed Bird Feeder

Woodpeckers normally peck at the bark of trees looking for insects to eat, but sometimes they need a little extra to fill their gullet – this one was raiding my seed feeder for a few choice nuggets.

This is GREAT camera work. Very nice job. I’ve been trying to catch the one around my house on camera but can not seem to find at the right time. Again, very nice job!!

Thanks! We get a lot around these parts, very common. I had just happened to set up the tripod for some other birds and this little guy appeared! I’m sure glad it wasn’t a hand-held shot this time!

I’ve got one in my back yard that does the same thing! It is comical, how he hangs on for dear life as he’s eating seeds from the feeder! I am confused as to the exact species of Woodpecker, my bird book says it’s a red belly, but even though the bird looks exactly like this one in your video, the belly is just plain grayish white. Can someone set me straight?
